DOCTOR OF AUDIOLOGY PROGRAM HEAD

Position Description

The School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences (BBS) at The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) invites applications from outstanding clinician scientists to lead the highly ranked Doctor of Audiology (AuD) Program, housed in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing (SLH). Applicants must be eligible for licensure as an Audiologist in the state of Texas and have an established record of scholarship and leadership. The AuD program head is the most visible member of the program both within and outside the university. As such, they are expected to articulate a clear vision for the AuD program and prepare students for the changing landscape of healthcare. The AuD program has strong ties to the world-renowned Callier Center for Communication Disorders. The strong historic partnership with the Callier Center provides practicum placements, student scholarships, and support for shared education and research missions. Program Head responsibilities include overseeing the AuD curriculum and training program, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, and leading AuD program administration, accreditation, and review processes. In addition to clinical credentials, applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Speech, Language, and Hearing Science or a related field (Communication Sciences, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Psychology), provide evidence of a dynamic and productive research program with extramural funding, and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching. Applicant research programs may be in any area of hearing, balance, or associated disorders. Appointment will be at the rank of Associate or full Professor according to experience.

The appointment commences for the fall 2027 semester.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience: Eligibility for licensure as an Audiologist in the State of Texas is required. A PhD or equivalent in Speech, Language, and Hearing Science or in a related discipline (Communication Science, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Psychology) is required prior to employment. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We are seeking candidates able to produce research and scholarly or creative achievements that enhance the program and the discipline, and able to deliver high-quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.

Preferred Education and Experience: Candidates with a history of scholarship pertinent to hearing and hearing disorders, a strong publication portfolio, and record of extramural funding appropriate for their career stage are preferred. Candidates with a history of academic or other professional leadership are preferred. Candidates holding clinical certification by the American Board of Audiology (ABA) and/or the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) are preferred.

The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing is one of three departments within BBS. It is home to a dynamic, collaborative research community that houses the nation’s #1 public Doctor of Audiology program (tied) and #10 public MS in Speech-Language Pathology program (tied) (based on 2026 U.S. News & World Report rankings). Faculty members actively engage in research and clinical practice at the Callier Center for Communication Disorders, advancing patient care and research at its two Dallas-Fort Worth locations. The department includes 35 faculty members and approximately 450 students.

The department offers the BS in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, the MS in Speech-Language Pathology, the AuD in Audiology, and the PhD in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences.

Additional opportunities for vibrant interdisciplinary collaborations are available with UT Dallas Centers including the Center for Vital Longevity, the Center for Children and Families, the Texas Biomedical Device Center, the Center for Advanced Pain Studies, and the Psychological Services and Education Center. BBS faculty also have vigorous collaborations with the UT Dallas Bioengineering and Electrical Engineering programs, the UT Southwestern Medical Center, and Baylor University Medical Center.

The UT Dallas Clinical and Translational Research Center, led and directed under BBS, provides comprehensive support for clinical research including regulatory support, administrative staffing, and access to core facilities. Clinical and translational research programs are additionally facilitated by the UT Dallas Sammons BrainHealth Imaging Center.
